Our Queens

The heart and soul of our breeding program are our girls.  They are the mothers who nurture the future generations of show and beloved companion Birmans. Our girls live as members of the family and enjoy free run of our home. We keep only a very few ladies at a time here at Gryphonwood to ensure an optimal environment for everyone. 

Health is our first priority. All our cats are routinely tested negative for deadly FIV and FeLV virus and are never exposed to untested cats. Genetic diseases are rare in Birman cats, however we are committed to doing everything we can to ensure that we are not breeding cats that can pass on inherited disease. We have utilised the Veterinary Genetics Laboratory at UCDavis, Optimal Selections and Texas A&M to DNA test for blood type and genetic disease over the years and welcome you to view the results.   We also randomly PCR  test our cats for feline viral and bacterial respiratory and enteric diseases to ensure that the cattery remains clear and healthy. Our vaccination protocol goes above the minimum recommendations and is the protocol recommended by the American Association of Feline Practitioners for a high risk environment like show catteries. This allows us to ensure our cats health, while enabling unbiased evaluation of our breeding by qualified judges.

Jan 21, 2023 : Mimi was our random cattery cat selected for respiratory PCR  prior to the breeding season - negative results across the board (.pdf copy available upon request)

Feb 4, 2024: Mimi was examined by Dr. Paolo Porzio, DVM, MVetSc, DACVIM  to screen for any cardiac issues that could affect breeding suitability - at 9 years of age her results continue to be all normal structurally and functionally.  Detailed report available upon request.

Philly's breeding career was ended  too early.  During her second pregnancy  the delay in breeding due to our decision not to breed  for 18 months during the pandemic, resulted in a severe uterine infection and although we saved her life, she had to be spayed.  She was adopted and is the much loved and thriving with her new family.

 and be part of Gryphonwood.  I waited for almost a year for Jaynie to come join us and this delightful and beautiful girl was sure worth the wait. She has retired, but left us little Hillary to carry on.

RETIRED - Catabella Glory Days of Gryphonwood 

'Glory' is a gorgeous girl with a huge personality. I am forever grateful to Mary Richards for allowing this most wonderful girl to come live with me. She is mother to Indigo, Woody, Kon Tiki, Jerry Maguire  and Legends amongst many. She is truly THE Foundation Queen. Those are her eyes at the top of our web page. She is the whole package and an uber Mom Cat as well. 

RETIRED - CFA CH Gryphonwood I Hope You Dance  Hope has completed her Championship title and will be staying here with us to carry on in her Mom's (Molly) place. She is a sweet girl with perfect markings and huge sapphire blue eyes. I am grateful to my fellow exhibitors who voted Hope second Exhibitor's Choice award for Birmans in Championship during the 2012 Sacred Cat of Burma Show in Medina, OH.   Hope is now staying home and to grow up and hopefully have beautiful babies in 2013.

RETIRED - CFA CH Gryphonwood Indigo: 'Indy' is a blue point daughter from  Glory and Freddie.  She has her fathers impressive boning and mothers lovely expression and glorious long white coat. RETIRED - CFA CH Gryphonwood From Here to Eternity: 'Pearl' is our little party girl - she has kept her delightful silly kitten temperament that drives the other 'mature' gals to distraction. She has also retained her brilliant white coat and from an early age had some of the most intense and well developed lilac point colour and eye colour we have seen.  Her father was our big outcross chocolate Australian boy Phoenix and her mother was our own girl Pippy.

RETIRED - GC Gryphonwood Gone with the Wind (Panda)

(AKA Panda).  Panda was our first homegrown CFA Grand Champion and a daughter of Rory and Freddie.  Although we loved her type and body, Panda was not meant for Motherhood.  She went to live with a lovely family in Toronto with one of our kittens named Pirate and has a happy life as one of the prettiest sofa cats around!

RETIRED - Gryphonwood Hope Floats  (AKA Molly) is a third generation Gryphonwood cat.  She is a stunning seal point girl with the deepest blue eyes and sweet, sweet temperament. With two pregnancies and two C-sections, Molly was spayed and her one surviving daughter, Hope, will remain with us to carry on. Molly has a wonderful temperament and has remains with us developing a 'second career' doing some commercial modelling work. Watch for Molly the Birman cat on the USA Network television series 'Suits' - she will be appearing in Episode 5 'Break Point' -Airing in some areas the week of July 19th.
